The NBA is looking into allegations made against Thunder guard Josh Giddey, league spokesperson Mike Bass said today, as reported by Shams Charania of the Athletic.
Giddey, 21, has been under scrutiny following the surfacing of social media videos which indicated that the Thunder player had engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a minor. The allegations were brought up during Friday’s team media session, in which Giddey responded with, “I understand the question obviously, but there’s no further comment right now.”
When Thunder’s head coach Mark Daigneault was asked about the situation, he didn’t elaborate either, “Personal matter, and I have no comment on it,” he told reporters. “And that’ll be my comment on anything related.”
With the gravity of this off-the-court matter, it is unknown if Giddey’s availability for the team will be affected during the ongoing investigation. After being drafted 6th overall by the Thunder in the 2021 NBA draft, Giddey has started in each of his 145 career games, and this season he is averaging 12.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 4.5 assists for the 11-4 Thunder team.
