NBA Media: Carmelo Anthony Joining NBC As Studio Analyst

NBC Sports is set to add former 10-time NBA All-Star Carmelo Anthony to its lineup of top studio analysts for the network’s return to broadcasting games next season, per Andrew Marchand of The Athletic.

Anthony will lend his insights to NBC’s coverage as the network revives its NBA broadcasts. This move marks a significant step for the network as it re-enters the basketball broadcasting landscape.

“Besides Anthony, it does not yet have the rest of its studio team,” Marchand wrote. “Maria Taylor — NFL and college football host — is under consideration to lead the network’s NBA pregame show.

“On games, NBC/Peacock will have Mike Tirico and Noah Eagle as its top two play-by-players with Terry Gannon, who is also already part of its network, a possibility for the third game spot, according to sources briefed on the network’s plans. It has hired Jamal Crawford and Reggie Miller as game analysts and has shown interest in Dwyane Wade and Grant Hill.”

In related news, NBC was in talks with Hall of Fame analyst Charles Barkley, but those discussions have reportedly come to an end.

Barkley, who has long been a fixture on TNT’s Inside the NBA, will remain with the network as part of his agreement with ABC/ESPN. Despite TNT losing its NBA broadcast rights for the 2025-26 season, Barkley’s position on the popular pregame show will not be affected, as he remains committed to his role with the network.

Additionally, Marchand reports that ESPN analyst Richard Jefferson has attracted attention from Amazon, which will take over the NBA broadcast rights for the 2025-26 season.

Amazon’s upcoming foray into NBA coverage has led to speculation about Jefferson potentially joining their team of analysts.
