Lakers superstar Luka Doncic raves about Austin Reaves: ‘He’s an amazing player’

NBA superstar Luka Doncic raved about Austin Reaves after the Los Angeles Lakers beat the San Antonio Spurs on Monday (3/17).

Reaves put up 30 points versus the Spurs while shooting 12-of-21 from the field and 5-of-13 from 3.

Reaves is an undrafted NBA player. He joined the Lakers in 2021-22 and quickly earned the trust of LeBron James

The 26-year-old Reaves is averaging 19.6 points, 4.5 rebounds and 6.0 assists this season for the Lakers while shooting 44.6% from the field, 36.6% from beyond the arc and 87.2% from the free-throw line.

Most people in the NBA believe Reaves is the best third option in the league. The Lakers are lucky they have him behind Doncic and LeBron.

Los Angeles is in fourth place in the Western Conference standings with a strong record of 42-25. With Doncic, LeBron and Reaves leading the way, the Lakers are expected to compete for this year’s championship.

Under first-year head coach JJ Redick, the Lakers are 19th in the NBA in points per game, ninth in points per game allowed, 12th in offensive rating, 13th in defensive rating and 13th in net rating.

Doncic has appeared in 15 games with the Lakers. He’s averaging 26.2 points, 8.8 rebounds and 8.1 assists.

The Lakers can offer Doncic a four-year, $229 million extension this summer, or, like other teams, a five-year, $296 million contract in the summer of 2026.

Doncic was eligible to sign a five-year, $345 million extension with the Dallas Mavericks this summer. According to The Athletic, Dallas wasn’t going to offer Doncic the supermax extension.

A future Hall of Famer, Doncic appeared in 422 games with the Mavericks. He averaged 28.6 points, 8.7 rebounds and 8.3 assists and made five All-Star teams and five All-NBA teams.
