Grizzlies star guard Ja Morant was the victim of a burglary in December, with thieves reportedly stealing up to $1 million in property, a senior law enforcement source confirmed Thursday. The NBA player was on the court for the Grizzlies at the time of the incident, unaware that his home was being targeted.
The burglary occurred between 4 p.m. on December 19, 2024, and 1 a.m. the next day, while Morant was playing in the Grizzlies’ 144-93 victory over the Golden State Warriors at FedExForum. Morant finished the night with nine points.
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) is actively investigating but has released limited details to the public.
“On Dec. 20, 2024, at approximately 4 p.m., deputies responded to a residence in unincorporated Shelby County following a reported burglary at the home of a Memphis Grizzlies player,” SCSO spokesperson Lt. Joseph Fox said. “Detectives are actively investigating the case, pursuing leads and working to identify those responsible. To protect the integrity of this investigation, we are unable to release the victim’s name or address.”
While the Grizzlies and Morant’s representatives have declined to comment, the case remains a priority for law enforcement, with investigators working to track down the individuals responsible.
Morant, who recently returned from injury, has been a centerpiece for the Grizzlies’ franchise despite multiple off-court incidents in recent years. While the burglary is a significant personal setback, it remains to be seen whether the NBA star will publicly address the situation.
For now, Memphis will look to move forward on the court, while police continue their efforts to solve the case.
