Offseason 3-team trade proposal involving Spurs, Nets, Suns sends Kevin Durant to San Antonio

One NBA analyst proposed that the San Antonio Spurs acquire Kevin Durant from the Phoenix Suns this offseason in a three-team deal.

Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report proposed the following trade idea between the Suns, Spurs and Brooklyn Nets:

Spurs Receive: Kevin Durant and a 2030 second-round pick from Brooklyn

Suns Receive: Nicolas Claxton, Keldon Johnson, a 2025 first-round pick from San Antonio (via Atlanta), a 2029 first-round pick from San Antonio and a 2031 first-round pick from San Antonio

Nets Receive: Devin Vassell, a 2025 second-round pick from Phoenix (via Denver) and a 2026 first-round pick swap from San Antonio

The Suns are expected to trade Durant this offseason, an NBA source told Hoops Wire. Durant doesn’t have a no-trade clause in his contract, but the NBA icon and Phoenix are expected to work together on a trade

Durant will make $54.7 million next season in the final year of his contract.

According to NBA insider Shams Charania of ESPN, Durant was open to getting traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves, New York Knicks, Houston Rockets, Miami Heat or Spurs at this year’s trade deadline.

“It’s not hard to see why the Spurs were listed among the potential KD suitors,” Bailey wrote. “Victor Wembanyama is a timeline-changer all by himself. Had he avoided the deep vein thrombosis that ended his 2024-25 campaign early, San Antonio might have competed for a play-in spot. In Year 3, with De’Aaron Fox now on the roster, the playoffs almost feel like a foregone conclusion. The Spurs now have an All-Star-level point guard and an All-NBA-level big man. It’s only natural to want one more high-impact player in between them, and Durant would slot perfectly into one of the forward/wing spots alongside Harrison Barnes.”

Durant turns 37 in September. He’s averaging 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists for the Suns this season while shooting 52.7% from the field, 43.0% from beyond the arc and 83.9% from the free-throw line.

Durant, currently out with an ankle injury, has career averages of 27.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.4 assists with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Golden State Warriors, Nets and Suns. He’s a two-time champion, a two-time Finals MVP, a one-time MVP and a four-time scoring champion.
