Devin Booker told NBA reporter Logan Murdock of The Ringer that he has no plans to request a trade from the Phoenix Suns.
The Suns have been a walking disaster this season despite having Booker and Kevin Durant, but Booker doesn’t want to leave the desert.
“It’s not always greener on the other side,” Booker said. “People always want to leave their situation and end up in a worse situation and then they go missing. You’ll never have the love like you have by the team that drafted you.”
The Suns drafted Booker with the 13th overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. Booker is the leading scorer in Phoenix franchise history.
Last month, Suns owner Mat Ishbia told ESPN he would not trade Booker this offseason.
“Never happen,” Ishbia said. “It’s silly. So here’s what I’ll tell you: I have Devin Booker in the prime. In order to win an NBA championship, you got to have a superstar. You got to have a great player.”
Booker has career averages of 24.4 points, 4.0 rebounds and 5.2 assists. He has made four All-Star teams and two All-NBA teams.
A Kentucky product, Booker scored 70 points against the Boston Celtics in Boston in 2017. The shooting guard is averaging 25.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and 7.0 assists this season.
“It’s upsetting,” Booker said about this season. “Ultimately when you’re playing with this type of talent, you expect a championship. And our first year linking up together was our best run at it, winning two games [against] Denver. And ever since then, it’s kind of been downhill.”
The Suns are 35-40. They are in 11th place in the Western Conference standings.
The Suns could fire head coach Mike Budenholzer in the offseason to appease Booker and Durant, an NBA source told Hoops Wire. Neither Durant nor Booker has a good relationship with Budenholzer, who is in his first season with Phoenix.
