Report: Suns will consult Kevin Durant on any trade discussions involving him this summer

According to NBA insider Tim MacMahon of ESPN, the Phoenix Suns will consult Kevin Durant on any trade discussions involving him this summer.

Durant will make $54.7 million next season in the final year of his contract.

“League sources said that Durant and Rich Kleiman, the 15-time All-Star’s agent and business partner, would be consulted on any trade discussions involving him this summer,” MacMahon wrote. “Durant has one season remaining on his contract and would be eligible to sign a two-year, $122 million extension with a team that acquires him, providing him significant power to influence a potential trade destination.”

The Golden State Warriors had a deal to acquire Durant at this year’s NBA trade deadline, but Durant blocked it because he didn’t want to get traded “midway through the season.”

“I just didn’t wanna get traded midway through the season,” Durant told NBA reporter Malika Andrews of ESPN. “It was nothing against my time with the Warriors. Or I heard it was because I don’t like Draymond (Green). At the end of the day, I just didn’t wanna move and I wanted to see it through with my team in Phoenix and see what we can do through the rest of the season. So I’m glad I’m still there.”

Durant is a four-time scoring champion, a two-time champion, a two-time Finals MVP and a one-time MVP. The NBA icon has played for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Warriors, Brooklyn Nets and Suns.

The San Antonio Spurs, Dallas Mavericks, Minnesota Timberwolves, Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat will pursue a Durant trade this offseason, an NBA source told Hoops Wire. Durant doesn’t have a no-trade clause in his contract.

“I’ll just say that we’re going to evaluate in the offseason,” Suns owner Mat Ishbia said. “We’re going to find a way to win, and it’s probably a lot easier winning with Kevin Durant than without him. But at the same time, yes, if we’re not good enough in this iteration of the Phoenix Suns, we’re going to find a way to be better next year.”
