Report: Whispers growing Spurs could pursue Kevin Durant trade in offseason

According to NBA insider Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, whispers are growing that the San Antonio Spurs could pursue a Kevin Durant trade in the offseason.

The Phoenix Suns are widely expected to trade Durant this offseason since they have struggled this season and almost traded the future Hall of Famer at this year’s NBA trade deadline.

“One dark-horse team worth mentioning in connection to Durant is the San Antonio Spurs,” Siegel wrote. “After just making a big move to pair De’Aaron Fox with Victor Wembanyama, the Spurs are poised to make even more moves this offseason. There have been whispers among league personnel about the possibility of the Spurs pursuing Durant and creating the best offensive trio in the league next to Fox and Wembanyama.”

Durant will make $54.7 million next season in the final year of his contract. He doesn’t have a no-trade clause in his contract.

However, the Suns are expected to consult Durant on any trade discussions involving him this offseason.

One of the greatest players in NBA history, Durant was upset the Suns shopped him at this year’s NBA trade deadline. The Golden State Warriors had a deal to acquire Durant, but the two-time Finals MVP blocked it because he didn’t want to get traded “midway through the season.”

“I just didn’t wanna get traded midway through the season,” Durant told NBA reporter Malika Andrews of ESPN. “It was nothing against my time with the Warriors. Or I heard it was because I don’t like Draymond (Green). At the end of the day, I just didn’t wanna move and I wanted to see it through with my team in Phoenix and see what we can do through the rest of the season. So I’m glad I’m still there.”

Durant has played for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Warriors, Brooklyn Nets and Suns. He’s a two-time champion, a two-time Finals MVP, a one-time MVP and a four-time scoring champion.
