Offseason trade proposal sends Kevin Durant to Mavericks

One NBA analyst proposed that the Dallas Mavericks trade for Phoenix Suns superstar Kevin Durant this offseason.

Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report proposed the following trade idea between the Mavericks and Suns:

Phoenix Suns Receive: G/F Klay Thompson, PF P.J. Washington, C Daniel Gafford, SG Max Christie, 2029 first-round pick (via Los Angeles Lakers)

Dallas Mavericks Receive: F Kevin Durant

“The Mavs should be desperate to appease their fanbase given the way this season is going, and landing Durant to team up with Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis is a heck of a Big 3 to build around for the next few seasons,” Swartz wrote. “The Suns need to stay competitive with first-round picks still going out in 2025, 2027 and 2029 from the acquisition of Durant. Thompson, Washington, Gafford and Christie are all starting-caliber players and the Lakers’ unprotected pick in 2029 gives Phoenix a little more trade ammo. A Durant trade seems inevitable for the Suns, a team that will undoubtedly only get back a fraction of what they gave up for the now 36-year-old in 2023.”

Durant has a close relationship with Irving, Davis and Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison.

KD will make $54.7 million next season in the final year of his contract.

The Suns are expected to consult Durant on any trade discussions involving him this offseason. Most people in the NBA believe Phoenix will trade the future Hall of Famer this summer since the team has underachieved.

Durant has played for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Golden State Warriors, Brooklyn Nets and Suns. He’s a two-time champion, a two-time Finals MVP, a one-time MVP and a four-time scoring champion.

The Mavericks shocked the NBA world by trading Luka Doncic, a move Dallas fans will never get over. Harrison is the most hated man in Texas right now, but he could save his image by trading for Durant.

One of the top scorers in NBA history, Durant is averaging 26.9 points this season. He is showing no signs of slowing down.
