Offseason trade proposal sends Kevin Durant to Timberwolves

One NBA analyst proposed that the Minnesota Timberwolves trade for Phoenix Suns superstar Kevin Durant this offseason.

Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report proposed the following trade idea between the Timberwolves, Suns and Brooklyn Nets:

Minnesota Timberwolves Receive: F Kevin Durant

Phoenix Suns Receive: SF Jaden McDaniels, G Rob Dillingham, SG Donte DiVincenzo, 2025 first-round pick (top-13 protected via Detroit Pistons)

Brooklyn Nets Receive: PG Mike Conley Jr., 2025 second-round pick (from Timberwolves via Utah Jazz)

The Timberwolves tried to trade for Durant at this year’s NBA trade deadline. They will contact the Suns again in the summer about a KD trade.

Anthony Edwards gets to play with his GOAT as the new Dur-Ant duo terrorizes opposing defenses,” Swartz wrote. “With Rudy Gobert protecting the paint and the window for Naz Reid and Julius Randle to return still open, this would be a big swing for the Wolves to try and get back to the West Finals and beyond. Phoenix would save $11.3 million in player salary not to mention a ton of luxury tax money while getting three good, young players and a mid first-round pick in this 2025 draft. Brooklyn uses its cap space to take on Conley and receives a high second round pick as a reward.”

One of the top scorers in NBA history, Durant will make $54.7 million next season in the final year of his contract. He doesn’t have a no-trade clause in his contract.

However, the Suns are expected to consult Durant on any trade discussions involving him this offseason.

Most individuals in the NBA believe Phoenix will trade the future Hall of Famer this summer since the team has underachieved this season.

Durant has played for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Golden State Warriors, Brooklyn Nets and Suns. He’s a two-time champion, a two-time Finals MVP, a one-time MVP and a four-time scoring champion.

Durant is averaging 26.9 points this season. He is showing no signs of slowing down despite being 36 years old.

Durant will turn 37 in the fall.
