Offseason trade proposal sends Kevin Durant to Hawks

NBA analyst Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report proposed that the Atlanta Hawks trade for Phoenix Suns superstar Kevin Durant in the offseason.

Swartz proposed the following trade idea:

Atlanta Hawks Receive: F Kevin Durant

Phoenix Suns Receive: F Zaccharie Risacher, C Onyeka Okongwu, G/F Terance Mann, 2025 first-round pick (top-12 protected via Sacramento Kings)

Durant will make $54.7 million next season in the final year of his contract.

The Golden State Warriors had a deal to acquire Durant at this year’s NBA trade deadline, but Durant blocked it because he didn’t want to get traded “midway through the season.”

The Suns are expected to consult Durant on any trade discussions involving him this offseason.

Durant is a four-time scoring champion, a two-time champion, a two-time Finals MVP and a one-time MVP. The NBA icon has played for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Warriors, Brooklyn Nets and Suns.

“The Hawks will need to aggressively improve the roster this summer, as Trae Young can become an unrestricted free agent in 2026,” Swartz wrote. “As good as the four-time All-Star is, Young is probably best suited to be a No. 2 option on a championship team rather than a leading man. A trade for Durant makes the Hawks competitive immediately, which is important since the San Antonio Spurs control Atlanta’s next two first-round picks. Adding Durant to a roster with Young, Jalen Johnson and Dyson Daniels is a great start, especially if the team can bring back veterans like Clint Capela, Caris LeVert and Larry Nance Jr. in free agency.”

The Suns are in 10th place in the Western Conference standings.

A future Hall of Famer, Durant is averaging 26.4 points, 6.1 rebounds and 4.3 assists on the season.

“I’ll just say that we’re going to evaluate in the offseason,” Suns owner Mat Ishbia told ESPN. “We’re going to find a way to win, and it’s probably a lot easier winning with Kevin Durant than without him. But at the same time, yes, if we’re not good enough in this iteration of the Phoenix Suns, we’re going to find a way to be better next year.”

One of the greatest scorers in NBA history, Durant has career averages of 27.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.4 assists.
