Offseason trade proposal sends Trae Young to Magic

One NBA analyst proposed that the Orlando Magic trade for Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young this offseason.

Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report proposed the following trade idea between the Magic and Hawks:

Orlando Magic Receive: PG Trae Young

Atlanta Hawks Receive: G Anthony Black, G Cole Anthony, SG Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, F Tristan Da Silva, 2025 first-round pick (top-5 protected via Denver Nuggets), 2027 first-round pick

“No team needs a point guard upgrade more than the Magic, a franchise that ranks 28th in offense only ahead of the tanking Charlotte Hornets and Washington Wizards,” Swartz wrote. “Young is an ideal fit for this Orlando team that features plenty of dishes, knives and forks yet has no one to set the table.

“Plugging him into a starting lineup with Jalen Suggs, Franz Wagner and Paolo Banchero instantly makes this one of the best teams in the East. Armed with all of their future firsts and a bonus one coming from Denver, it’s time the Magic pooled together their assets and chased a franchise point guard.”

Young is one of the best scorers and passers in the NBA. He’s averaging 24.1 points, 3.2 rebounds and 11.4 assists for the Hawks this season while shooting 41.0% from the field, 33.3% from beyond the arc and 87.4% from the free-throw line.

A four-time All-Star, Young has career averages of 25.3 points, 3.5 rebounds and 9.8 assists. He turns 27 in September.

The Hawks signed Young to a five-year, $215 million extension in 2021. Young will make $45,999,660 next season. He has a player option worth $48,967,380 for the 2026-27 season.

Young has never considered requesting a trade from the Hawks, who are in seventh place in the Eastern Conference standings. If the season ended today, Atlanta would face Orlando in the play-in tournament.

It will be fascinating to see what the Hawks do with Young this offseason. Young would certainly command trade interest on the open market due to his offensive talent.
