NBA icon Oscar Robertson ripped Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green for saying the league is “boring.”
Here’s what Green said about the NBA during All-Star Weekend: “It’s just who can run faster, who can hit more 3s, it’s no substance. I think it’s very boring.”
Robertson, one of the greatest players in NBA history, didn’t hold back while talking about Green’s comments.
“Who cares what Draymond says? It doesn’t mean anything,” Robertson said. “One guy can say this, one guy can say that. The game is the game. People either like the game or they don’t. And I think people enjoy the game, especially if their team can win. It might be boring to him because if he’s not passing the ball to Stephen Curry, then what is he doing?”
Green always speaks his mind, which is why he’s one of the most polarizing players in NBA history.
Robertson doesn’t talk much, but when he does, everyone pays attention. He’s a living legend.
A four-time champion, Green also criticized the league’s decision to include Rising Stars players in the All-Star Game.
“I had to work so hard to play on Sunday night of All-Star Weekend,” Green said on the TNT broadcast. “And because ratings are down, because the game’s bad, we’re bringing in Rising Stars? I never played in the Rising Stars game. My first two years, I didn’t touch that game. And these guys get to touch the All-Star floor? On Sunday night?”
NBA TV ratings are down. LeBron James, Anthony Edwards and Giannis Antetokounmpo missed the All-Star Game due to injuries. Players weren’t weren’t happy with all the breaks during Sunday’s game.
In other words, Adam Silver’s league is in trouble.
“To be honest, I didn’t like it at all,” Hawks star point guard Trae Young said. “I didn’t like the breaks. The games were so short. Obviously we can score. So they’re trying to, I feel like, trying to extend the game, extend the TV time with the breaks and things like that.”
Added Shai Gilgeous-Alexander: “I would rather play without breaks. I feel like it was a little bit more towards the competitive side tonight, which is a good feeling, a step in the right direction. I guess it’s up to the guys that handle all that stuff to figure out what’s next and how to keep making it more and more interesting. Hopefully we get there one day.”
