Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton is one of the best players in the NBA. He leads the league in assists and assists per game this season.
However, the 24-year-old has been struggling since the All-Star break, shooting just 21.3% from beyond the arc.
After the Pacers lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers last night (3/18), Haliburton talked about his recent struggles with NBA reporters.
“I’ve never been through a slump like this in my life, but it’s all part of it, figuring it out,” Haliburton said, via The Athletic. “Sh— sucks. Everybody’s got the f—ing answer, but I think it’s about me figuring sh— out. I just gotta be better, and I will be better moving forward.”
The Pacers are only 7-6 since the All-Star break. They are in seventh place in the Eastern Conference standings with an overall record of 38-31.
Haliburton is averaging 15.8 points, 4.1 rebounds and 9.8 assists while shooting 41.7% from the field and 21.3% from deep since the All-Star break. He hasn’t looked like himself for whatever reason.
“I think it just stems from me getting guys in the right position, the right spots, getting the right shots during games,” Haliburton said. “Just me doing a better job, I think it starts with me and then kind of trickles down from there.”
If the season ended today, the Pacers would face the Miami Heat in the 7-8 play-in tournament game at home. Indiana is trying to make the playoffs this year for the first time since 2020.
The Pacers have multiple wins against the Boston Celtics, Milwaukee Bucks and New York Knicks this season, but they also have multiple losses against the Charlotte Hornets and Toronto Raptors. They also lost to the Washington Wizards.
“It’s hard to watch,” Pacers coach Rick Carlisle said. “You got a team that leads the league in scoring and passes, and we get into segments where we’re over-dribbling and dribbling into a crowd, not looking to move it. That’s shame on us.”
