Report: Trae Young Trade Chatter ‘Has Noticeably Quieted Down’

According to NBA insiders Marc Stein and Jake Fischer, Trae Young trade chatter “has noticeably quieted down.”

The Atlanta Hawks have missed the playoffs two years in a row. They fired general manager Landry Fields last week.

“Atlanta’s Trae Young? The noise on that front, compared to the chatter bubbling in Atlanta after the Hawks’ 2023-24 season ended, has noticeably quieted down,” Stein and Fischer wrote. The clearest possible read on Young’s future with the Hawks will be easier to pinpoint with certainty once they secure a new lead decision-maker in the front office to replace the ousted Landry Fields, but talk of potential Young trades has undeniably faded after his generally strong 2024-25 season and return to All-Star status. Which is in sharp contrast to the past few seasons that ended with no shortage of Trae Trade Talk.”

Young averaged 24.2 points, 3.1 rebounds and 11.6 assists for the Hawks this season while shooting 41.1% from the field, 34.0% from beyond the arc and 87.5% from the free-throw line.

A four-time All-Star, Young will make $45,999,660 next season. He has a player option worth $48,967,380 for the 2026-27 season.

Young led the Hawks to the 2021 Eastern Conference Finals. He has career averages of 25.3 points, 3.5 rebounds and 9.8 assists.

“Hawks coach Quin Snyder, furthermore, has regularly cited Young’s improved effort and commitment on the defensive end,” Stein and Fischer wrote. “Add it all up and it would seem— pending similar backing from the Hawks’ next president of basketball operations — that the 26-year-old is well-positioned to remain at the forefront of Atlanta’s offense.”
