According to NBA insider Marc Stein, the Nets had zero interest in trading Bridges to the Rockets for a package headlined by Green. The Rockets made several aggressive offers to the Nets for Bridges, but Brooklyn would not trade the former Phoenix Suns forward.
Green has played the best basketball of his NBA career over the past few weeks. During the Rockets’ current eight-game winning streak, Green is averaging 29.3 points, 6.1 rebounds and 3.6 assists while shooting 52.5% from the field, 45.3% from 3 and 77.3% from the foul line.
“He’s been on a tear,” Jazz guard Collin Sexton said about Green, via The Athletic. “He’s coming into his own. He had a few ups and downs but you can tell Fred (VanVleet) is doing a great job mentoring and helping him out. Just keeping the game simple.”
The Rockets (35-35) are only one game back of the Golden State Warriors for the 10th spot in the Western Conference standings thanks to Green’s recent strong play. As for the Nets, they are in 11th place in the East with a record of 26-45.
The 22-year-old Green is averaging 19.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.4 assists on the season while shooting 42.6% from the field, 33.4% from beyond the arc and 80.6% from the free-throw line.
Meanwhile, the 27-year-old Bridges is averaging 20.5 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists while shooting 43.9% overall, 36.8% from 3 and 81.0% from the foul line.
The Rockets drafted Green with the second overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. Houston can sign Green to a rookie-scale extension this summer.
