NBA legend Spencer Haywood told Jake Uitti of HoopsHype that he “wouldn’t be surprised” if Kevin Durant plays for the Seattle SuperSonics again.
The SuperSonics became the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2008-09. Durant’s rookie season was with Seattle in 2007-08.
“Me and Durant are still talking about Seattle,” Haywood said. “We talked about it at the All-Star game [this year]. I can’t go any further – there’s some sneaky stuff going on that I can’t talk about because it’s private. But I wouldn’t be surprised if I see him in a Sonics uniform [again]. I was with his mother at the All-Star game – with him and his mother, everybody. I’m just saying.”
Haywood appeared in 326 games with the SuperSonics. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2015.
Durant averaged 20.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.9 blocks in his one season in a SuperSonics jersey. He won the 2008 NBA Rookie of the Year Award.
Everyone in the NBA community misses the SuperSonics. Durant plans to try to get the SuperSonics back to Seattle when he retires from the NBA.
One of the greatest scorers in NBA history, Durant has career averages of 27.3 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.4 assists with the SuperSonics/Thunder, Golden State Warriors, Brooklyn Nets and Phoenix Suns. He’s a two-time champion and two-time Finals MVP.
A Washington native, Durant has made 14 All-Star teams and 10 All-NBA teams. He won the 2014 MVP Award with the Thunder.
KD currently plays for the Suns. He’s averaging 27.8 points, 6.7 rebounds and 5.5 assists this season while shooting 52.8% from the field, 42.1% from beyond the arc and 85.6% from the free-throw line.
Durant, 35, is under contract through the 2025-26 season. He requested a trade from the Nets last season and was traded to the Suns on February 9, 2023.
