One NBA analyst proposed that the Cleveland Cavaliers trade Caris LeVert to the Atlanta Hawks for Bogdan Bogdanovic.
Ismail Sy of King James Gospel proposed the following mock trade between the Cavaliers and Hawks:
Hawks receive: Caris LeVert, two second-round picks
Cavaliers receive: Bogdan Bogdanovic
“Bogdanovic offers more consistent offense from the perimeter and a playmaking perspective,” Sy wrote in his NBA column. “This was outlined in our Cavs perfect offseason piece last month. With the Hawks in a rebuild, the logical next step would be to get value for their veteran players via trade. LeVert has an expiring contract and two second round picks adds to the Hawks picks collection.
“Bogdanovic fits Atkinson’s philosophy of shooting threes better than LeVert does. He has never shot below 36 percent from three in his career and he is coming off of a career high in PPG (16.9). He also has playoff experience and has been to a conference finals, so he knows what it takes. This would be a shrewd move for Cleveland.”
Bogdanovic averaged 16.9 points, 3.4 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.2 steals and 0.3 blocks for the Hawks in 2023-24 while shooting 42.8% from the field, 37.4% from beyond the arc and 92.1% from the free-throw line. He will make $17.3 million next season.
Meanwhile, LeVert averaged 14.0 points, 4.1 rebounds, 5.1 assists, 1.1 steals and 0.5 blocks for the Cavaliers this past season while shooting 42.1% from the field, 32.5% from 3 and 76.6% from the foul line. He’ll make $16.6 million next season in the final year of his deal.
The Cavaliers lost to the Boston Celtics in the second round of the 2024 playoffs in five games, while the Hawks missed the postseason.
Bogdanovic, who turns 32 on August 18, has career averages of 14.7 points, 3.4 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.3 blocks with the Sacramento Kings and Hawks.
LeVert, who turns 30 on August 25, has career averages of 14.1 points, 3.9 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 1.1 steals and 0.4 blocks with the Brooklyn Nets, Indiana Pacers and Cavaliers.
