One NBA analyst proposed that the Golden State Warriors acquire Brandon Ingram from the New Orleans Pelicans in a blockbuster trade.
Stephen Noh of The Sporting News proposed the following mock trade between the Warriors and Pelicans:
Warriors receive: Brandon Ingram, Jeremiah Robinson-Earl
Pelicans receive: Andrew Wiggins, Gary Payton II, Moses Moody, 2025 first-round pick, 2027 first-round pick (top 10 protected)
“That is a hefty price tag for the one-time All-Star, but he could help the Warriors next season as the No. 2 guy on the team,” Noh wrote. “He is also still young enough at the age of 26 to help usher in their new era once Stephen Curry and Draymond Green retire. The Warriors need a secondary scorer to put alongside Curry, and Ingram has averaged 23.1 points per game over the past five seasons.
“Ingram does have flaws, which have kept other teams away from him. He doesn’t embrace spotting up for many 3s and he’s a worse defender than he should be in theory. But he’s a much better player than he showed in last year’s first-round series against the Thunder, where he tried to come back quickly from injury and looked ineffective in scoring only 14.3 points per game. Ultimately, Ingram can create his own shot well and works as a No. 2 guy on a good team.”
One of the top scorers in the NBA, Ingram averaged 20.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, 5.7 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.6 blocks in 2023-24 for the Pelicans while shooting 49.2% from the field, 35.5% from beyond the arc and 80.1% from the free-throw line. He’ll make $36 million next season in the final year of his contract.
A Duke product, Ingram has career averages of 19.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 0.7 steals and 0.6 blocks with the Los Angeles Lakers and Pelicans. He won the 2019-20 Most Improved Player of the Year Award.
Wiggins, who won the 2022 championship with the Warriors, averaged 13.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 0.6 assists and 0.6 blocks last season while shooting 45.3% from the field, 35.8% from beyond the arc and 75.1% from the free-throw line. He’ll make $26.3 million next season.
The first overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, Wiggins has career averages of 18.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.7 blocks with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Warriors.
