One NBA insider proposed a trade where the Los Angeles Lakers acquire Stephen Curry, Day’Ron Sharpe and Wendell Moore Jr.
Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report proposed the following mock trade between the Lakers, Golden State Warriors, Brooklyn Nets and Detroit Pistons.
Lakers get: Stephen Curry, Day’Ron Sharpe, Wendell Moore Jr., $3.9 million trade exception (Jalen Hood-Schifino)
Warriors get: Austin Reaves (via Lakers), Ben Simmons (via Brooklyn Nets), 2029 unprotected first-rounder (via Lakers), 2031 unprotected first-rounder (via Lakers), $2.4 million trade exception (Curry)
Nets get: D’Angelo Russell (via Lakers), Rui Hachimura (via Lakers), Gabe Vincent (via Lakers), Jalen Hood-Schifino (via Lakers), $23.3 million trade exception (Simmons), $2.0 million trade exception (Dennis Schröder)
Pistons get: Dennis Schröder (via Nets), Christian Wood (via Lakers), 2025 LA Clippers second-rounder (via Lakers), 2025 Miami Heat second-rounder (38-59, via Nets), $4 million (via Lakers)
Curry, LeBron James and Anthony Davis were teammates on Team USA during the Paris Olympics. Curry and LeBron were deadly together in pick-and-pop/roll plays.
“It’s an opportunity the Lakers can’t pass up on, whatever the ramifications,” Pincus wrote in his NBA trade proposal. “The franchise gives up two unprotected firsts and its third-best player (Reaves) for Curry. It’s an all-in move with two former rivals in the latter days of their careers, James (39) and Curry (36), showing how well they can play together in Paris.”
Curry would have to request a trade from the Warriors to get traded since Golden State’s front office isn’t going to trade him unless he wants to play for another team.
The Warriors tried to acquire LeBron last season, but the Lakers were not interested in trading LeBron, the leading scorer in NBA history.
LeBron is arguably the greatest player in NBA history, while Curry is the best shooter of all time. Add in Davis, one of the best defenders ever, and the Lakers could win it all next season if Curry landed in Los Angeles.
Curry appeared in 74 games last season for the Warriors, who missed the playoffs and lost Klay Thompson this offseason in free agency. Steph averaged 26.4 points, 4.5 rebounds and 5.1 assists while shooting 45.0% from the field, 40.8% from beyond the arc and 92.3% from the free-throw line.
