Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green said on his podcast that his back has been “bothering him” lately. The four-time NBA champion didn’t play against the Dallas Mavericks on March 13.
“My back has been bothering me for like four or five games now,” Green said. “I’ve kind of been going through it, like playing through it.”
The Warriors face the Los Angeles Lakers tomorrow (3/16). It’s unknown if Green will play. Golden State is in 10th place in the West, while Los Angeles is in ninth place.
Green has appeared in 40 games this season. He’s averaging 9.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 5.9 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.9 blocks while shooting 49.5% from the field, 42.3% from beyond the arc and 75.4% from the free-throw line.
The 34-year-old Green signed a four-year, $100 million contract with the Warriors last summer. He has a player option worth $27.7 million for the 2026-27 season.
The Warriors drafted Green with the 35th overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft out of Michigan State. Green has made four All-Star teams, two All-NBA teams and eight All-Defensive teams.
A future Hall of Famer, Green won the 2016-17 Defensive Player of the Year Award. The Warriors have played in six NBA Finals in the Green-Stephen Curry–Klay Thompson era, winning four titles along the way.
Green has career averages of 8.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, 5.6 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.0 blocks. He’s one of the best defenders in NBA history.
The Warriors will retire Green’s number 23 jersey one day. Green will go down as one of the greatest second-round draft picks of all time.
The Warriors won the 2022 championship over the Boston Celtics in six games. However, they lost to the Lakers in the second round of the playoffs last season in six games. It was the first time Golden State didn’t reach the Finals after making the postseason in the Steve Kerr era, which began in 2014.
