Kevin Knox is making the most of his opportunity with the Warriors, hoping to earn a permanent role as his second 10-day contract nears expiration. The former lottery pick began the year with Golden State’s summer league and G League teams before earning a call-up, and he’s embracing the grind.
“At the end of the day, you gotta put your ego and pride aside and go out there and just do what’s needed,” Knox told The New York Post. “I think [going to the G League] was best at the time… so the coaches, people around the league can see that I still can play this game.”
Now, Knox is proving he belongs on a playoff-caliber roster. While his role is limited in Golden State’s deep rotation, he’s averaged 4.0 points per game over seven appearances and has impressed head coach Steve Kerr with his perseverance.
“I’m just so impressed with the fact that he’s on this path, on this journey, and not giving in,” Kerr said.
Knox’s current deal runs through Monday, at which point the Warriors must decide whether to keep him for the rest of the season. Unlike fellow 10-day signee Yuri Collins, who wasn’t given a second deal, Knox has shown enough to stick around—now it’s up to Golden State to determine if his journey continues in the Bay.
