According to NBA insider Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, the Golden State Warriors explored Pascal Siakam trade scenarios before the trade deadline passed.
The Warriors also considered making a run at Dejounte Murray.
“They explored scenarios that would have brought Pascal Siakam to Golden State, league sources told Yahoo Sports, and considered making a run at Dejounte Murray,” Fischer wrote.
The Toronto Raptors traded Siakam to the Indiana Pacers, while the Atlanta Hawks kept Murray.
The Warriors, who tried to acquire Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James, made only one move at the trade deadline. They sent Cory Joseph to the Pacers for a 2024 second-round pick.
According to NBA insider Sam Amick of The Athletic, Siakam didn’t want to get traded to the Warriors. Siakam, who becomes an unrestricted free agent this summer, is expected to re-sign with the Pacers.
A two-time All-Star, Siakam is averaging 22.0 points, 6.4 rebounds and 4.9 assists this season while shooting 53.5% from the field, 34.0% from beyond the arc and 72.9% from the free-throw line. He has seven double-doubles and one triple-double in 54 games.
Meanwhile, Murray is averaging 21.4 points, 5.1 rebounds and 5.3 assists while shooting 46.3% from the floor, 36.4% from 3 and 82.5% from the foul line. The one-time All-Star is one of the top two-way players in the NBA.
The Warriors (27-26) are in 10th place in the Western Conference standings. They would be in the play-in tournament if the season ended today.
According to NBA insider Baxter Holmes of ESPN, Warriors owner Joe Lacob wanted to acquire LeBron from the Lakers at this year’s trade deadline. Lacob, in consultation with Draymond Green, inquired about trading for LeBron, who has the same agent (Rich Paul of Klutch Sports Group) as Green.
“I’m not going to comment on something I can’t comment on, but, in general, I just want to win,” Lacob said. “We just want to win. We want to be the best, and we’re going to try whatever tactic it takes to get there. I am not here to screw around. We are not here to screw around. We are not here to be just ‘some team.’ We’re not going to do that. We may fail. Everyone fails. We may fail occasionally, but it will not be for lack of trying.”
