Free agent forward/center Darius Bazley is signing on with the 76ers’ G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
Bazley started the season with the Guangdong Southern Tigers of the Chinese Basketball Association. (Former NBA wing Will Barton is also currently playing for Guangdong.)
Bazley, 24, is 6-foot-10 and was waived by the Jazz in July. He originally signed with Utah on March 12 and appeared in six games last season, averaging 8.0 points and 4.5 rebounds.
Rather than play college basketball or join the G League, Bazley opted to work out on his own following his high school career, then enter the NBA Draft when eligible. He was selected by the Jazz with the No. 23 overall pick in 2019, then traded to the Thunder a week later.
Bazley was traded to the Brooklyn Nets last summer and then waived before camp. He also played for the Delaware Blue Coats of the G League last season.
The Sixers, of course, could use all the help they can get, given their 2-9 start (entering Friday night). A lot of that presumably has to do with the absence of Joel Embiid, who’s appeared in just one game as the result of injury management and a suspension.
Also, Paul George has been limited with injury management of his own, and now Tyrese Maxey is out with a hamstring ordeal. So it’s safe to say Philadelphia intends to be better at the end of the season than now.
That can only be considered a good thing.
