Sixers To Sign Lonnie Walker As Agent Pulls An About-Face

Hours after saying veteran guard Lonnie Walker would remain overseas for the duration of the NBA season, agent George S. Landberg now says Walker will sign a two-year, $3 million deal with the Philadelphia 76ers, per Marc Stein of The Stein Line.Lonnie Walker IV, Celtics, NBA, Nuggets, Sixers, 76ers

While Walker’s deal is reportedly worth $3 million, the actual value will be slightly higher. While the team can only offer a minimum salary contract, the second year will be valued at $2.94 million.

The exact figure for Walker’s prorated minimum for this season will depend on when he officially signs.

The second year of the contract is a team option, as reported by Kyle Neubeck of PHLY Sports.

Currently, the 76ers have a full 15-man roster, with David Roddy occupying the 15th spot. However, Roddy’s 10-day contract expires Thursday night, making room for Walker to fill the vacancy.

“The original contract Walker signed with BC Zalgiris contained a Feb. 18 escape clause to return to the NBA,” Stein wrote. “After planning to stay in Lithuania until the summer before finding his next NBA team, Walker got an 11th-hour call today from Philadelphia to hurry back.”

Walker, who has accumulated 322 career NBA appearances, has played for the San Antonio Spurs, Los Angeles Lakers, and Brooklyn Nets since entering the league in 2018.

In the 2023-24 season, he averaged 9.7 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game in 58 appearances with the Nets. He shot 42.3% from the field, 38.4% from three-point range, and 76.3% from the free-throw line.

Walker’s versatility and scoring ability have made him a valuable role player throughout his NBA career, though he was waived by the Boston Celtics in October following a training camp stint.
