Lakers forward Carmelo Anthony is expected to play at least one more season, despite speculation he may be set to retire, per Sean Deveney of Heavy.com.
Anthony, 37, will be an unrestricted free agent after finishing his first season with the Lakers. He appeared in 69 games, averaging 13.2 points and 4.2 rebounds, coming off the bench in all but three.
A return to the Lakers would be the most likely scenario for Anthony, per Deveney, though he has also been linked to the Nets, Heat and Celtics.
Deveney spoke to multiple league executives about Anthony’s looming free agency, with one source indicating the future Hall of Famer will have options.
“There is a comfort level with living in L.A. and playing there,” one source told Deveney. “The starting point on him coming back and not retiring is signing on with the Lakers and hoping that they fix the roster and the coaching situation. But it’s wide-open.”
