The Hawks advanced to the Eastern Conference finals last year. This year, they couldn’t get out of the first round.
So it’s no surprise they don’t think their roster is whole. There’s Trae Young, then a bunch of pretty good players, including John Collins.
But GM Travis Schlenk said the offseason evaluating things and looking for ways to improve.
“We made the decision last year to run the same group back. We probably should’ve tried to upgrade, as opposed to stay status quo,” Schlenk told reporters. “The way the season played out; we’re certainly going to try to upgrade the roster moving forward into next season.”
In other words, the Hawks may have been too comfortable with the roster after last season. Schlenk added that along with finding some new players, the Hawks will have to handle their own potential free agents and contract situations, specifically mentioning Danilo Gallinari‘s deal.
Basically, the Hawks will still be centered around Young, and while no massive overhaul is expected, noticeable changes could be on the way.
