Veteran forward Robert Covington and the Clippers have agreed to a two-year, $24 million contract extension, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Covington was acquired from the Trail Blazers at midseason, offering depth at the position as Kawhi Leonard missed the year with a knee injury.
“Under collective bargaining rules, Covington was eligible to re-sign with the Clippers for a maximum of two years before the start of free agency in July,” RealGM wrote. “The Clippers’ projected luxury tax bill for next season increases from $17.8 million to $54.9 million with Covington’s new deal.”
Covington, 31, averaged 10.4 points and 5.1 rebounds in 23 regular-season games with the Clippers. Along with the Trail Blazers, he has also spent time with the 76ers, Timberwolves and Rockets.
