The Mavericks could be among those pursuing free agent Bulls guard Zach LaVine this summer, potentially via a sign-and-trade arrangement, per Marc Stein of The Stein Line.
While the Mavs have enough salary-cap space to sign LaVine outright, they may be able to reshape the roster a little but giving the Bulls back some players.
LaVine is widely expected to re-sign with Chicago, but has made it fairly evident he intends to explore his options. “There have also been reports that LaVine isn’t thrilled with his role in Chicago,” RealGM wrote.
As we relayed previously, it is believed LaVine is seeking a maximum contract.
LaVine, 27, just completed his eighth season, compiling averages of 24.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.5 assists in 67 games. He has been an All-Star in each of the past two seasons.
Along with the Mavericks and a return to the Bulls, LaVine also has been linked to the Hawks, as well as the Trail Blazers and Spurs. More suitors are almost certain to enter the mix before the start of free agency in July.
The Mavericks reached the Western Conference before being eliminated by the Warriors in five games.
