Grizzlies’ Jaren Jackson Jr. To Undergo Surgery After Agreeing To $240 Million Extension

Memphis Grizzlies big man Jaren Jackson Jr. sustained a turf toe injury in his right foot during a live basketball run offsite and will need surgery. 

The Grizzlies and Jackson Jr. are expected to agree to a five-year, $240 million extension. 

Jackson Jr. averaged 22.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 blocks in 74 games for the Grizzlies last season while shooting 48.8% from the field, 37.5% from beyond the arc and 78.1% from the foul line. 

The Oklahoma City Thunder swept Memphis in the first round of the 2025 playoffs. 

Jackson Jr. won the 2023 Defensive Player of the Year Award. He has career averages of 18.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.9 blocks in 407 NBA games. He’s made two All-Star teams and three All-Defensive Teams. 

Memphis has won just one postseason series since drafting Jackson Jr. and Ja Morant

The Grizzlies traded Desmond Bane to the Orlando Magic for Kentavious Caldwell-PopeCole Anthony, four unprotected first-round picks and one first-round pick swap on Father’s Day.
