East Notes: Bulls, Zach LaVine, Wizards, Pacers

Bulls

Free-agent-to-be Zach LaVine is believed to be “in play” by several rival teams around the NBA, per Marc Stein of The Stein Line. That means teams think LaVine could leave Chicago this summer in the right scenario.

Sources have told Hoops Wire that LaVine is seeking a maximum contract. It remains to be seen if the Bulls intend to offer one.

Still, most around the league seem to believe LaVine and the Bulls will work something out before next season. He also has been linked to the Trail Blazers, Spurs and Mavericks, among a few others.

  • In case you missed it, several reports have cited the Bulls as a potential destination in the event the Jazz decided to make Rudy Gobert available. You read more on that on Hoops Wire right here.

Wizards

Former NBA star Tracy McGrady thinks two players who could fall in the Wizards’ draft range have promising NBA futures — Wisconsin guard Johnny Davis and Auburn power forward Jabari Smith Jr.

Granted, Smith is expected to be selected in the top three overall, perhaps first by the Magic. The Wizards aren’t drafting until No. 10. But this is the NBA Draft, and you can always trade up.

I like the kid Johnny Davis. I think he has the ability to be a star in today’s game,” McGrady said, via Chase Hughes of NBC Sports Washington. “I think Jabari Smith has the ability to be a star in today’s game. Those two really stand out to me of having that potential to be perennial All-Stars in the NBA.”

As Hughes noted, the Wizards held an in-person workout with Davis already. He could be available at No. 10, and Washington could take him to develop behind Bradley Beal, Hughes wrote.

Pacers

  • The Pacers have hired former agent Happy Walters as a consultant, per Stein. Walters most recently represented the likes of Celtics guard Marcus Smart and Grizzlies guard John Koncher, among others. He has also worked as music producer.
  • A recent video revealed Pacers center Myles Turner is looking healthy again after missing time last season with an injured foot, wrote James Boyd of the Indianapolis Star. The injury kept Turner out of action for the final 39 games last season.
