We have a Victor Oladipo sighting. More specifically, Oladipo took part in a private workout on Monday in Las Vegas that was described as “well-attended,” according to NBA insider Jeremy Woo of ESPN.
The veteran guard is looking to make a return to the league — and participated in a five-on-five scrimmage alongside several international players in front of scouts and personnel from numerous NBA and European teams.
Multiple team sources told Woo they were impressed with how Oladipo looked during the session. The 33-year-old has not played in an NBA game since 2023 but hopes to return to the league following a lengthy recovery from multiple knee injuries. He was said to be in “excellent” shape.
Oladipo appeared encouraged by his own progress, writing on social media Sunday that he feels “great right now” and believes he can help a team. He added that his injury troubles are behind him.
Once a rising star and elite two-way player, Oladipo last reached All-Star status with the Indiana Pacers in 2019. He broke out in 2017-18, averaging 23.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2.4 steals across 75 games. That season earned him a Most Improved Player award, as well as All-NBA and All-Defensive team honors. He finished with votes for both MVP and Defensive Player of the Year.
Injuries, however, changed the trajectory of his career. A ruptured quad tendon in January 2019 derailed his momentum and sidelined him for about a year. A second surgery followed in 2021. Oladipo has played in just 102 games since the initial injury, most recently appearing for the Miami Heat during the 2022-23 season.
His last NBA action came in April 2023, when he sustained a torn patellar tendon in his left knee during a playoff game.
According to Woo, there is a belief around the league that Oladipo could receive a training camp invite this fall. For now, his goal remains getting back on an NBA roster and proving he still belongs.
