The Toronto Raptors are deep into their search for a new team president, and the uncertainty surrounding the process is reportedly creating tension inside the organization.
“Everybody is scared,” a source told Josh Lewenberg of TSN.ca. “The closer you are to the top, the more you feel it.”
General manager Bobby Webster, longtime second-in-command to former president Masai Ujiri, is currently running basketball operations.
Lewenberg reports that Webster is being considered as a permanent replacement, but ownership group Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment has brought in CAA Executive Search to assist in identifying external candidates. A list of potential names was submitted to the MLSE board last week.
Future of Ingram
Among the lingering questions is what happens next with forward Brandon Ingram, acquired from the New Orleans Pelicans in February ahead of the trade deadline. According to Lewenberg, Ujiri was the “driving force” behind the deal that brought Ingram to Toronto in exchange for Bruce Brown, Kelly Olynyk and draft assets.
While Ingram remains under contract for one more season, his long-term future with the Raptors may hinge on who ultimately takes control of basketball operations. A new regime could view him as a foundational piece, or as a trade chip.
Toronto has spent the past few years reshaping the roster, moving on from Pascal Siakam, OG Anunoby and Fred VanVleet. Whether Ingram is part of the team’s next era or a short-term addition may become clearer once the front office picture comes into focus.
