Thunder first-round pick Thomas Sorber will miss his entire rookie season after tearing the ACL in his right knee during an offseason workout, the team announced.
Sorber, the No. 15 overall pick in the 2025 draft, suffered the injury on Thursday and is expected to undergo surgery. Oklahoma City said he will sit out the 2025/26 campaign while rehabbing.
It is a tough blow for the 19-year-old big man, who averaged 14.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists and two blocks in his lone college season before a left foot injury ended his year prematurely.
Sorber becomes the second straight Thunder lottery pick to lose his entire rookie season to an ACL injury. Last year’s No. 12 pick, Nikola Topic, also sat out.
The Thunder had hoped Sorber could factor into their long-term frontcourt plans alongside Chet Holmgren, Isaiah Hartenstein and Jaylin Williams. Instead, they will have to wait until 2026/27 to see him in uniform.
For now, Oklahoma City has enough depth to cover the loss, but the setback delays what was expected to be Sorber’s first step toward carving out a role in one of the league’s deepest young rotations.
