John Wall Headed To Clippers On Two-Year Deal, Agency Says

Veteran point guard John Wall has agreed to a two-year, $13.2 million contract with the Clippers, Rich Paul‘s Klutch Sports Agency announced.

Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports first reported that Wall and the Rockets had agreed to a buyout, setting him up to join Kawhi Leonard, Paul George and the Clippers.

Other teams had an interest in Wall, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, including the Lakers and Heat.

Meanwhile, Marc Stein of the Stein Line reported the presence of coach Tyronn Lue would likely be a big factor in Wall joining the Clippers. He did not play at all last season as the Rockets sought a trade.

The Clippers are anticipating the returns of Leonard from a knee injury, as well as Paul George. Wall will add the experienced playmaker they have been seeking, and all of that combined could put them into instant contention.

“Wall can be an excellent facilitator for a Clippers team that will have two superstars on the court,” wrote Eddie Bitar of Fadeaway World.

He last appeared in 40 games in 2020-21, his first season with the Rockets, averaging 20.6 points and 6.9 assists. Along the way, he proved to be a leader and a true professional in a losing situation.

He did not play the year before that after suffering a left heel/Achilles infection. In all, he has played just 72 games over the previous five seasons. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft, Wall spent the first nine years of his career with the Wizards.
