Thunder
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander just keeps stacking history and the Thunder keep stacking wins.
OKC moved to 8-0 with a 126-107 comeback in Los Angeles on Tuesday, and Gilgeous-Alexander went for 30 points, 12 assists and four boards. He has now scored 20 or more in 80 straight regular-season games.
That puts him second all-time behind only Wilt Chamberlain. That’s the entire list.
Gilgeous-Alexander told reporters it’s just the result of daily consistency.
“I just put in the work, I take care of my body, I get enough rest and I do it all over again,” he said. “I’ve found a formula that works for me and I just try to hammer it home every day.”
He also said the streak is not a talking point in the locker room.
“We don’t talk about it,” Gilgeous-Alexander said. “Every night’s an opportunity to go win one. And we’ve done a good job of that for the last eight games. We’ve got to keep it going.”
It wasn’t easy early. James Harden opened with 17 in the first quarter as the Clippers jumped ahead 33-20 at the Intuit Dome.
The Thunder slowly took control with a 33-24 second quarter, then delivered the knockout in the second half. OKC scored 38 in the third and ran away in the fourth to stay undefeated.
Warriors
Stephen Curry will not play Wednesday vs. the Kings. Coach Steve Kerr shut that down after the Warriors’ 118-107 win over the Suns, and he didn’t wait for a medical update.
“He’s wiped out right now,” Kerr said, via The Athletic’s Nick Friedell. “I don’t care what the doctors say, we got to get him some rest. I’ll make the decision right now, he’s not gonna play Wednesday. He needs some rest. He’s been sick. All the travel, everything, it’s just caught up to him. So hopefully getting some rest and hopefully he’ll be ready to go for Denver.”
Curry still fought through it Tuesday, scoring 28 points in 33 minutes, shooting 9-for-23. But he was coughing during his postgame presser and admitted he was running on fumes.
“The second half, the tank was on E,” Curry said. “I was just trying to dig deep, especially in the second half to get through the game. Knowing Jimmy (Butler) was out too. It was a battle out there, but thankfully we got it done.”
Spurs
ESPN lists the Spurs as No. 2 in its latest set of power rankings, its highest spot in years.
Newcomer Dylan Harper has played a role in that, according to the outlet’s Michael C. Wright.
“The No. 2 pick, Harper, earns mention in the discussion, averaging 14 points over six games while shooting 50% from the field and averaging nearly four assists,” Wright wrote. “Playing 23 minutes per game, Harper ranks fourth on the team in scoring, and at 19, figures prominently in San Antonio’s rotation but will likely miss several games due to his latest injury.
“Harper suffered a left calf strain during Sunday’s loss to the Suns and is expected to sit out multiple weeks. This injury could potentially derail San Antonio’s chances of finishing this season with three consecutive NBA Rookie of the Year winners.”
