The Pistons are signing guard Wendell Moore Jr. to a two-way contract, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. To create the opening, Detroit is waiving fellow two-way guard Colby Jones.
Moore, 23, has been looking for another NBA landing spot since he was waived by the Celtics during training camp.
Detroit’s staff is familiar with him. Moore spent part of last season in the organization before a February roster move sent him to the Hornets and eventually onto another two-way contract there.
A late first-round pick in 2022, Moore has appeared in 90 NBA games with career averages of 2.3 points in 8.1 minutes. Last season, he totaled 36 appearances between Detroit and Charlotte, averaging 4.2 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 13.9 minutes.
Jones saw seven minutes of garbage-time action this season. The 2023 second-round pick appeared in 30 games for Sacramento as a rookie, then logged a combined 39 games with the Kings and Wizards last season.
Washington traded Jones to Oklahoma City in June. The Thunder waived him shortly after, and Detroit signed him to a two-way deal in late July.
Moore now gets the spot. Detroit hopes his familiarity and versatility provide useful depth.
