With Nico Harrison out, the Mavericks are moving quickly to stabilize their front office, and possibly reshape it altogether.
Assistant general managers Michael Finley and Matt Riccardi have been promoted to lead basketball operations on an interim basis, according to the team. Both are well-respected internally, but bigger changes could be coming.
Minority owner Mark Cuban, who lost day-to-day control of basketball operations when he sold the majority stake of the franchise to the Adelson and Dumont families in December 2023, has quietly been pushing his own plan, per ESPN’s Tim MacMahon.
According to MacMahon, Cuban hopes to bring in Dennis Lindsey — the former Jazz general manager now working in Detroit’s front office — as a long-term hire.
Lindsey previously served as a senior advisor for the Mavericks during their 2023-24 Finals run and had a voice in the roster construction that surrounded Luka Doncic.
It’s unclear how open majority owner Patrick Dumont will be to Cuban’s idea, though the two have been in more frequent contact recently after months of tension, MacMahon reports.
Dumont ultimately made the call to fire Harrison — a decision that signaled a firm break from the previous leadership structure.
Head coach Jason Kidd, meanwhile, is safe for now, MacMahon reports. Kidd signed a multi-year extension in the preseason after Dallas blocked him from interviewing with the Knicks over the summer.
But with the team sitting near the bottom of the West, stability across the organization feels temporary at best.
