The Mavericks continue to take calls and gather intel on Anthony Davis, but leaguewide momentum toward a deal still hasn’t materialized.
According to Grant Afseth of Dallas Hoops Journal, Dallas is operating with patience and discipline as the deadline approaches, prioritizing long-term value over a rushed move.
Sources have consistently indicated that if the Mavericks do move Davis, the return would need to include at least one impactful young player who fits a roster being built around Cooper Flagg.
So far, that bar has been difficult for potential suitors to meet.
Around the league, teams remain hesitant to push aggressively for Davis, citing a familiar mix of concerns. Namely, recent injuries, the size of his contract and the looming reality that any acquiring team would soon be staring at a massive extension decision.
As one Western Conference scout put it to Afseth, a team would have to believe it’s “one Anthony Davis away” from a title to justify the risk.
Detroit and Toronto have both been mentioned as teams monitoring the situation, but neither is viewed as a clean fit. Detroit’s focus remains aligned with Cade Cunningham’s timeline and future commitments to Jalen Duren, while Toronto lacks a true blue-chip prospect to headline a package, despite controlling its future picks.
Internally, Dallas has shown interest in young wings such as Jonathan Kuminga and Zaccharie Risacher, sources told Afseth. But the mechanics are complicated.
A direct deal with Golden State would require major salary pieces like Jimmy Butler or Draymond Green, and Atlanta has yet to signal real willingness to part with Risacher.
