The Suns finally got one over the champs.
Phoenix knocked off the Thunder, 108–105, on Sunday when Devin Booker drilled a 35-footer over Alex Caruso at the horn. It was the Suns’ first win over Oklahoma City in their last nine meetings and easily their most electric moment of the season.
Booker didn’t shy away from the significance. The shot marked the eighth game-winner of his career in the final three seconds.
“It’s a feeling you can’t replicate,” Booker told Duane Rankin of the Arizona Republic. “Whenever that day comes where I’m done playing, you look back on moments like that. The team trusting you with the ball, no matter the result. This time, I was on the good side of it.”
Booker had plenty of help. Jordan Goodwin delivered the game of his life, scoring a career-high 26 points while knocking down eight three-pointers. He also drew the unenviable assignment of guarding Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, holding his own on the defensive end.
Goodwin said a little extra motivation came from the bench boss.
“He texted me Saturday night just to get me going,” Goodwin said of coach Jordan Ott. “That definitely helped.”
Notably, Goodwin’s minimum contract becomes guaranteed later this week. Performances like Sunday’s won’t hurt his case.
