Suns likely to stand pat at trade deadline, with season going well as is

The Suns like what they have. Quite a bit, actually.

Team officials have told Duane Rankin of The Arizona Republic that the Suns are not looking to make a move at the trade deadline unless something truly blows them away. The word coming out of the front office is that the chemistry is real, the direction feels right, and there is no appetite to tinker just for the sake of activity.

That mindset matters, especially given how this season has unfolded. After moving on from Kevin Durant and waiving Bradley Beal over the summer, Phoenix was widely viewed as a step-back team. Instead, the Suns are 26-17, hanging around the middle of the West playoff picture and sitting within striking distance of the top four.

There is also curiosity inside the organization about what Jalen Green brings once he finally gets on the floor. Green is expected back Tuesday after missing nearly two-and-a-half months with hamstring issues. Internally, he is viewed as something of a late-arriving addition rather than a sunk cost.

That does not mean Phoenix will sit entirely still. Veteran center Nick Richards is widely viewed as movable on his expiring deal, especially with the Suns hovering just above the luxury tax line. Team owner Mat Ishbia has shown he will spend, but ducking the tax now could matter later.

As for bigger swings, such as revisiting interest in the Warriors’ Jonathan Kuminga or addressing power forward long-term, league sources believe those conversations are more likely to resurface in the offseason.
