Despite recent speculation, the Raptors are not lining up as serious bidders for Ja Morant.
One league insider told SportsNet’s Michael Grange that while Toronto has been loosely connected to Morant since word surfaced that the Grizzlies may listen on offers, the Raptors are not expected to pursue him in any meaningful way.
Grange also cast doubt on the idea of Toronto chasing Anthony Davis, noting that a soon-to-be 33-year-old star fits a win-now profile that does not align with where the Raptors believe they are.
Instead, multiple sources told SportsNet that Toronto is comfortable staying patient and may be more inclined to consider a major move a year from now rather than forcing one at this deadline.
The Raptors have a relatively young roster, and coach Darko Rajakovic has repeatedly referenced a rebuild when discussing the team’s progress, even as the club operates near luxury tax territory.
The takeaway is simple. Basically, Toronto is not boxed in. The plan is intact, and any big swing will come only if it truly fits the long-term picture.
