Jonathan Kuminga remains very much in play, but the Warriors are not operating from a place of desperation.
ESPN’s Tim MacMahon said on SportsCenter that Golden State is actively shopping Kuminga ahead of the February 5 trade deadline, while also making it clear they will not force a deal just to make one.
“The Warriors are going to continue aggressively trying to trade Jonathan Kuminga, but Golden State would rather make no trade than a bad trade,” MacMahon said. “They’re not trying to take back salary they don’t want moving forward.”
That stance tracks with how the front office has handled recent roster decisions. The Warriors want value, flexibility, and contracts that make sense long term, not a panic pivot.
Meanwhile, ESPN’s Anthony Slater noted on Warriors Stock Report that New Orleans forward Trey Murphy remains a name of interest, even if the path to acquiring him looks narrow.
“A name I continue to hear that has long been and remains of interest to them is Trey Murphy,” Slater said. “The Pelicans are very much signaling they don’t want to move Trey Murphy. He’s under a very good contract.”
Kuminga has recently returned to the lineup following his trade request, but the situation remains fluid, especially with Golden State also recalibrating after Jimmy Butler’s season-ending ACL injury.
The Warriors are weighing their window, their assets, and their leverage. The clock is ticking. The price still matters.
