The Lakers know what the problem is. Fixing it before February 5 is the harder part.
They need perimeter help. Real help. Not just another name. Not just a move for the sake of movement.
“They need help on the perimeter,” ESPN’s Dave McMenamin said on SportsCenter. “A guy like Jonathan Kuminga, maybe he could be someone the Lakers could pursue. Maybe Andrew Wiggins in Miami. Someone like Keon Ellis in Sacramento, De’Andre Hunter, Peyton Watson. The list goes on and on.”
On paper, the Lakers have tools. Roughly $40 million in expiring money between Rui Hachimura, Gabe Vincent and Maxi Kleber gives them flexibility. Add either a 2031 or 2032 first-rounder, and suddenly, they at least have a seat at the table.
The real question is whether that package is strong enough to land the kind of two-way wing this roster actually needs.
This is not about chasing headlines. It is about fit. And if the Lakers are serious about maximizing this Luka Doncic window, standing pat probably is not the plan.
