Anthony Davis remains a name to monitor. But two teams once loosely tied to him are no longer in the mix.

According to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line, the Hawks and Raptors are not currently engaged in meaningful trade talks for the Mavericks big man. That narrows the field, at least for now, as Dallas weighs what comes next.

Davis is expected to miss at least six weeks with ligament damage in his left hand. He opted against surgery. This season, he’s averaging 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.7 blocks in just 20 games. Availability remains the headline.

There are people inside the Mavericks organization who want to see Davis alongside Cooper Flagg and Kyrie Irving, per reports.

But Dallas is also staring at a reality where losing may be more beneficial. The 2026 draft is the last one in which the franchise controls its own first-round pick until 2031. Tanking has a logic to it.

Since arriving in the Luka Doncic blockbuster, Davis has played only 29 games for Dallas. The Mavs sit 12th in the West.

Financially, this is big. Davis is making $54.1 million this season and becomes eligible for a four-year, $275 million extension in August. agent Rich Paul would like that extension done. The Mavericks may not, given Davis’ age and injury history. That tension is real and could push trade conversations forward.

Atlanta already pivoted by moving Trae Young. Toronto, meanwhile, sits fourth in the East and has an existing relationship with Paul after extending Brandon Ingram.

The deadline is Feb. 5. Davis is still in play. The market just looks shakier than it did a few weeks ago.
