No one is close to a Kevin Durant trade, but the Celtics are now in the mix.
Per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Boston is putting in a bid for the Nets star, perhaps floating All-Star Jaylen Brown as part of the proposal.
Jayson Tatum, however, is off limits, Wojnarowski added.
Durant has also been linked to the Suns, Heat and Wizards, but this is the first mention of the reigning Eastern Conference champs. Boston swept Durant and Brooklyn out of the first round of the playoffs.
The Celtics could have the type of massive package the Nets are seeking as well. Along with Brown, they could include “as many as three unprotected first-round picks (2025, 2027 and 2029) — and two pick swaps (2024 and 2026)” Wojnarowski wrote.
While it appears any talks are exploratory at this point, it appears Celtics head of basketball operations Brad Stevens is at least throwing expressing interest.
Durant, who turns 34 in September, has four years left on his contract.
