Report: Kings’ Zach LaVine would ‘love to move on from Sacramento’

It appears Zach LaVine would be OK with not being a King for a day. Or anytime after the February 5 trade deadline.

According to James Ham of Locked On Kings, LaVine would “absolutely love to move on from Sacramento,” though his maximum-salary contract remains a significant roadblock to any real movement.

There was some early optimism about a possible framework involving Milwaukee, centered on Kyle Kuzma and Bobby Portis, but that momentum has cooled amid the Bucks’ recent struggles and Giannis Antetokounmpo’s latest calf strain.

Meanwhile, Toronto continues to hover around the Kings’ orbit.

Ham reports the Raptors could explore a push for Domantas Sabonis, but one thing appears clear: Sacramento has no appetite for Jakob Poeltl. Ham relayed that a Kings source flatly dismissed that idea.

“‘We’re not getting into the Jakob Poeltl business’ is what I was told,” Ham said.

That same source, however, did not rule out interest in Raptors wing RJ Barrett, an interesting wrinkle given Kings GM Scott Perry’s history in New York when Barrett was drafted.

As for Keon Ellis, another popular name in league chatter, Ham pushed back on the idea that he has been part of Raptors-Kings discussions. A source told him “unequivocally” that Toronto and Sacramento have not talked about Ellis to this point.
