The Bucks are hiring former NBA forward DeMarre Carroll as an assistant to coach Mike Budenholzer, per Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports.
Carroll, 36, played for Budenholzer with the Hawks from 2013 to ’15. The Hawks finished with the best record in the Eastern Conference in the 2014-15 season.
Carroll last played in the NBA in 2020, appearing in nine games with the Rockets. He also spent time with the Spurs, Nets, Raptors, Jazz, Nuggets and Grizzlies. He has gone unsigned in free agency over the past several seasons and wanted to make the move into coaching.
Overall, Carroll averaged 8.9 points and 4.2 rebounds in 578 career games.
The Bucks lost to the eventual Eastern Conference champion Celtics in the playoffs, but are expecting to contend for a championship again in 2022-23.
