It’s officially official. That’s because the Cavaliers announced the three-team trade with the Kings and Bulls that sends De’Andre Hunter to Sacramento.
As part of the return, the Cavs receive well-traveled Kings point guard Dennis Schroder and small forward Keon Ellis.
“After careful evaluation and a clearer view of the Eastern Conference landscape, we believe adding Dennis and Keon strengthens our depth, expands our flexibility, and positions us to keep building a championship-caliber team now and into the future,” president of basketball operations Koby Altman said in a statement.
“In a season defined by its parity, this move better aligns us for a deeper postseason run.”
In a corresponding move, the Cavs received two-way forward Emanuel Miller from the Bulls and waived two-way wing Luke Travers. Altman thanked and praised Hunter and Travers for their contributions.
Schroder, 32, has appeared in 40 games this season, averaging 12.8 points, 5.3 assists and 3.0 rebounds. He has appeared in 882 regular-season games for his career, with the Hawks, Thunder, Lakers, Celtics, Rockets, Raptors, Nets, Warriors, Pistons and Kings.
The Cavs are Schroder’s 11th team in 13 seasons.
Ellis, 26, had appeared in 43 games this season, averaging 5.6 points and 1.1 steals. He has spent each of his four NBA seasons with the Kings.
Hunter, 28, played for the Cavs for parts of two seasons after last year’s trade with the Hawks. He’s averaging 14.0 points and 4.2 rebounds in 43 games.
Hunter and the Kings play host to the Cavs on Saturday.
