Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo after trade deadline: ‘Legends don’t chase’

Giannis Antetokounmpo isn’t going anywhere. At least, not yet.

The NBA trade deadline came and went Thursday, and the Bucks held onto their franchise star. Despite plenty of noise leading up to the deadline, there was no deal — and according to at least one report, Milwaukee was never truly serious about moving him in the first place.

If Antetokounmpo was frustrated by how things played out, he didn’t show it publicly. Instead, he took to X with a message that felt pointed, if not revealing.

“Legends don’t chase. They attract,” Antetokounmpo wrote.

He also shared a clip from The Wolf of Wall Street, featuring Leonardo DiCaprio’s famous “I’m not leaving” speech. Read into that however you’d like.

What makes it all interesting is the timing. Just last week, reports suggested Antetokounmpo was at least open to the idea of a trade. A week later, he’s still a Buck, and sounding very much like one.

That doesn’t mean this conversation is over. Milwaukee sits at 20-29, three games out of the final play-in spot in the East, and the roster remains very much in flux.

If the Bucks decide a reset is coming, the offseason is now the window.

  1. That egocentric comment is a self defeating message being sent out to the league. What all star or future legend will now want to “chase” him to Milwaukee? His words! My guess is none.

It’s language focuses on tier heirarchy and pride rather than collaboration teamwork and sacrificing together as one.

Giannis needs to go off the grid. Stop reading how great he is. And how he’s “due” championships if he just picks the right city. He needs to go work on that shot some more and focus on things he can control. Things regarding basketball. As a PR guy, he is not a legend. The messaging is not believed,or working. Not buying any of it.
